Chicago, Illinois

JGA was well represented at the recent CASE V conference. On Sunday, December 12, from 9:00 a.m.-noon, Angela White hosted a pre-conference session called “Leaders in Development: Doing What Is Not in the Job Description,” which focused on the leadership skills necessary to be a successful development officer, with an emphasis on personal solicitation. The session included input from four experienced development officers and a facilitated discussion on taking stock of your own leadership skills.

On Monday, December 13, at 11:00 a.m., Ernie Vargo co-presented “Positively Managing the Effects of Bonding on a Capital Campaign,” with Joe Emmick, Dean for Advancement at Wabash College, and Jeff Lewis, attorney for Ice Miller in Indianapolis. Attendees learned about the legal and technical aspects of bonding and how some institutions have blended bonding successfully in their campaign programs.

At 3:45 p.m. on Monday, Kris Kindelsperger teamed up with Cameron McGuire, Vice President for University Advancement at Butler University, and Katie Betley, Trustee and Vice Chair of the Campaign Cabinet for Butler, to present “Case Study of a Feasibility Study: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly on the Road to a Successful Campaign.” They told the story of a recent feasibility study with an analysis of what went right and what went wrong, along with recommendations for making your study as strong as possible.
